Conservation Supporting Recovery
LPC Conservation leads the way to recovering the lesser-prairie chicken populations. Partnering with ranchers and industry leaders, we permanently protect, restore and manage the best habitat available for the lesser-prairie chicken across its range.

What We've Done
LPCC maintains multiple agreements with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to give energy developers regulatory certainty and ranchers lasting value for conservation. Together, we align energy expansion with the permanent recovery of the Lesser Prairie Chicken.
Lesser Prairie Chicken
Secured 75,000 acres of rancher agreements in four states covering every ecoregion across the range.
May 2014: Programmatic Conservation Bank Agreement (“PCBA”) approved by USFWS — a first-of-its-kind agreement that enables expedited approval of conservation banks across the Lesser Prairie Chicken’s entire range.
September 2018: USFWS approves Lost Draw Conservation Bank in New Mexico.
March 2015: USFWS approves two conservation banks in Kansas: Hoeme Ranch Conservation Bank and Gardner Ranch Conservation Bank.
December 2021: USFWS approves LPCC’s Habitat Conservation Plan (“HCP”) for the transmission and communication tower industries, providing incidental take coverage for up to 500,000 acres of habitat losses across the Lesser Prairie Chicken’s range.
October 2015: USFWS approves Tomahawk Conservation Bank in West Texas.
June 2022: USFWS approves LPCC’s second HCP, this one for the oil and gas industry, providing incidental take coverage for up to 500,000 acres of habitat losses across the Lesser Prairie Chicken’s range.
